An original hand-painted minhwa painting by Soonja Yoo.
Minhwa (민화), or Korean folk painting, is known for its vivid colors, expressive imagery, and symbolic themes reflecting wishes for good fortune, longevity, and happiness.
Lotus Flowers draws on the lotus’s traditional association with purity and renewal. Rising from muddy water to bloom above its surface, the flower offers an enduring image of beauty and integrity flourishing amid difficult surroundings.
In this work, pale pink and lavender lotus blossoms emerge among overlapping leaves in rich shades of emerald, turquoise, and blue-green. Finely drawn veins radiate across the broad leaves, while curled golden edges and slender, dotted yellow stems add rhythm and contrast. Open flowers and closed buds appear against a deep navy background, creating a lush composition that balances delicate blooms with bold, expansive foliage.
