An original hand-painted minhwa painting by Soonja Yoo.
Minhwa (민화), or Korean folk painting, is known for its vivid colors, expressive imagery, and symbolic themes reflecting wishes for good fortune, longevity, and happiness.
Peonies in a Vase draws on the peony’s traditional association with wealth and prosperity in Korean painting. Its abundant blossoms express wishes for a flourishing life, bringing auspicious meaning to a familiar floral arrangement.
In this work, purple and pale pink peonies spread outward from a rounded, light blue vase. Layered petals and small yellow flower centers contrast with finely outlined leaves in shades of green and gold. Arching stems and scattered buds give the arrangement a lively, asymmetrical shape, while the simple vase and warm yellow background lend the composition a gentle sense of balance and warmth.
